Meteora DLMM vs Orca and Raydium CLMM

Bins versus continuous ranges — what actually changes for a liquidity provider, and why our bot works on CLMM rather than DLMM.

Two ways to concentrate liquidity

CLMM (Orca Whirlpools, Raydium CLMM, Uniswap v3) gives you a continuous price range. Liquidity is spread smoothly between your bounds, and a trade moving through it pays a fixed fee tier with slippage along the curve.

DLMM (Meteora) chops the price axis into discrete bins. Each bin holds reserves at one fixed price, so a trade that stays inside the active bin executes with zero slippage. You choose how to distribute liquidity across bins — flat, curved, or weighted to one side — and the fee itself moves with volatility.

Where DLMM genuinely wins. Dynamic fees are a real advantage: volatility is exactly when an LP takes the most divergence, and DLMM raises the compensation precisely then. A fixed 0.04% tier does not. For volatile or newly launched pairs that mechanism matters.

Where CLMM wins

Why our bot runs on CLMM

Not because DLMM is worse. Because automation needs the position's state to be computable at every moment: our bot values every position from on-chain liquidity, sizes deposits from the range's own proportions, and decides rebalances from the tick. Continuous ranges make that exact. Bins with a chosen distribution make it a different and larger problem, and we would rather do one thing correctly than two things approximately.

If a clear case appears we will build it. Until then the bot manages Orca Whirlpools and Raydium CLMM — and if you are providing on Meteora, none of the tools on this site stop being useful: the IL calculator works on any concentrated position.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Meteora DLMM and Orca CLMM?

CLMM gives you a continuous price range with a fixed fee tier; liquidity is spread smoothly between your bounds. DLMM chops price into discrete bins, each holding reserves at one price, so a trade inside the active bin has zero slippage. DLMM also uses dynamic fees that rise with volatility, and lets you shape liquidity across bins rather than only choosing a width.

Is Meteora DLMM better than CLMM for liquidity providers?

It is better at some things. Dynamic fees compensate you more exactly when volatility is hurting you, which a fixed tier does not, and bin shapes allow strategies a plain range cannot express. CLMM is simpler, has deeper liquidity on the major Solana pairs, and is far easier to model precisely — which matters if anything automated is managing the position.

Does Smart LP Bot support Meteora DLMM?

No. It manages Orca Whirlpools and Raydium CLMM. Automation needs a position's state to be exactly computable at every moment — valuation, deposit sizing, rebalance timing — and a continuous range gives closed-form answers where a chosen bin distribution does not. We would rather do one venue type correctly than two approximately.

Can I use these calculators for a Meteora position?

The impermanent loss calculator applies to any concentrated position, since IL depends on the price move and the bounds rather than on the venue. The APR and range tools assume a continuous range, so treat them as an approximation for a bin-based position rather than an exact answer.

Let the bot handle it

Smart LP Bot manages concentrated liquidity positions on Orca and Raydium at the same time — rebalancing, fee collection and optional IL hedging, all from Telegram.
